Perkins Road Veterinary Hospital is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care.

We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local specialty practices when special diagnostic procedures are required. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house x-ray capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and indoor climate controlled boarding kennels, outdoor day kennels and a very large exercise yard. Our special feline boarders are housed in their own area of the hospital away from all dogs.

At Perkins Road Veterinary Hospital we strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn't feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy.

While boarding at our hospital, be assured that your pets will be treated as if they were our own. All boarding animals get plenty of attention, TLC, playtime and exercise (dogs). As of now, we still accept non client boarders. This will change in the near future as the demand to board here and our client base is growing rapidly! If you are a non client you must provide us with your veterinarians name and phone number. We also will need proof of your pets current vaccination status.

Our Philosophy
When the Drs. Ritchie purchased the Perkins Road Veterinary hospital in 2000 they needed to make a decision on whether they would offer boarding or not. Boarding pets is very time consuming when done properly. They decided to offer boarding as one of their services - but their way. The two doctors agreed that pets aren't too interested in how luxurious and lavish their surroundings are. Pets aren't concerned about television and that their sleeping arrangements come with four posts in a "suite". Pets want attention! They want to be petted, brushed and played with. Dogs want to run and exercise. Most dogs prefer fresh air rather than being housed in small kennels all day. So when the doctors decided to board pets, it was patients first! It's much more time consuming to do it our way but our dog and cat friends seem to really enjoy their experience here.

Boarding policies
External parasites - All pets boarding shall be free of fleas and ticks. If your pet has any external parasites while here we will treat accordingly and your bill will be charged for such treatments.

Intestinal Parasites (Dogs) - All boarding dogs must have proof of a negative fecal exam in the past 6 months and current on heartworm prevention. If either of the two cannot be provided, a stool exam is manditory for boarding.

Vaccinations - Your pet must be current on core vaccines (Rabies, upper respiratory) in order to board here. If they are not, we will administer the over due vaccines at your expense.

Medications and diets - If your pet is on medications, please bring them with you. We will be happy to administer their treatments for you ( a daily medication fee applys). If your pet is on a special diet please bring this as well. If not, we feed science diet sensitive stomach or purina EN (intestinal diet) to all of our boarders.

Drop off and pick up times - We only allow pets to be dropped off and picked up during normal business hours. Sorry, no Saturday night or Sunday services.

Beds, blankets and toys - We will provide all the bedding materials your pet needs. You can bring your own bedding and toys if you wish but we cannot be held responsible for lost or damaged goods.

Emergency care - If your pet develops a minor problem (diarrhea, ear infection etc.) while boarding we will treat them accordingly. If a more serious issue should arise, every attempt (within reason) will be made to contact you via the numbers you provide us with. If we cannot contact you after several attempts or if the matter is time sensitive, we will proceed with emergency care. By signing our boarding admission form you are giving us permission to proceed with any treatments we deem necessary unless you give us written instructions otherwise. You will be financially responsible for any and all treatments needed for your pet while boarding with us.

Canine Boarding
The only time that dogs are kept in our spacious, climate controlled kennels are at night. The rest of the time they stay in our outdoor runs to enjoy the fresh air. Exceptions to this are: inclement weather, requests by owners to house their dogs indoors at all times, very elderly, unhealthy pets and breeds of dogs that are heat intolerant during our very warm months. Unless you bring your pets food, dogs are fed a prescription diet called Purina EN. This diet is to help control stress, anxiety and excitement caused diarrhea. All dogs are exercised individually in our large yard at least 3 times daily for at least 15 minutes each time. You are more than welcome to come visit our boarding kennels any time the hospital is open.

Feline boarding
Our cat boarders are kept in condos in a special area of our hospital. It is a quiet room that is completely isolated from dogs. Each spacious cage has either a comfortable bed, a perch for them to sit on or crawl in, or a double cat condo for laying in or on top of. Unless you bring your cat's diet, we feed science diet sensitive stomach to our boarders.
Feel free to come visit our boarding facilities any time our hospital is open.
