Digital Radiography

Perkins Road Veterinary Hospital utilizes digital radiography, one of the most effective diagnostic tools in the animal health industry. This imaging technology is an innovative form of x-ray examination that is safe, painless, and non-invasive. By instantly transferring digital images to a computer, digital radiography allows our doctors to observe the inside of an animal's body quickly and without the need for numerous retakes and repositioning of the patient.

Digital radiography enables us to assess the status of injuries or diseases that may be affecting your pet. The images produced through this digital technique help our veterinarians diagnose fractures, locate foreign objects, detect masses such as tumors, measure organ size for disease, diagnose pneumonia, discover pregnancies, bladder stones, chronic arthritis, and certain spinal cord diseases.

Because digital radiography uses such low doses of radiation, it is safe for pregnant females and very young pets. Another advantage of digital radiography is that it provides images much faster and with greater clarity than traditional x-rays. These digital images can be manipulated, enhanced, and contrasted, allowing our doctors to diagnose a condition more accurately. Additionally, we can take advantage of telemedicine, a process that allows the digital images to be shared instantly with board certified veterinary radiologists and specialists for consultation if required.
